Praia do Francês Brazil

Praia do Francês is located in Marechal Deodoro, Alagoas, about 25 km from Maceió, the state capital. The area was originally used as a harbor by French pirate ships that came in search of pau-brasil (Brazilwood), a species of timber tree that was abundant in the Atlantic Forest during the colonial period. Over the last 20 years, the beach has gone from being a well-kept secret to one of the most popular beaches in the region. Here you’ll find the lively atmosphere of an urban beach, but without beachfront promenades or rows of high-rise buildings. Beach tents and kiosks serving all kinds of snacks line the gentler part of the bay, which is protected by an offshore reef. These reefs create natural pools of clear, pale waters, and boat trips are available so visitors can observe the local marine life. On the right side of Praia do Francês, the waves are strong and attract surfers, while on the left side the calm waters are ideal for families with children and for swimming in general.
